Something for the Trip

Long-distance walking in Japan

This website presents resources and planning tools for long-distance walking trips in Japan. My first such trip was the 53 Stations of the Tokaido. I’m always looking forward to my next walk and I collect information here to help me plan.

Long distance: I mean routes that connect places that are far apart, and which usually have some historical significance. The journey must take place over multiple days.

Walking: Since I’m interested in routes that don’t require camping, I say “walking” instead of “hiking” or “backpacking”. I want to walk the entire distance as much as is safe and practical and see as much as I can on foot. Even though I don’t camp, I carry everything with me in a backpack.

In Japan: It’s my favorite place to walk.

Routes
